Building things, Learning New skills, Having fun doing it! My Name is Andrew Birkel,. I am currently a Technical Instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B. in Applied Physics with a concentration in Electronics and Optoelectronics. I enjoy hiking, electronics, machining, tinkering, sailing, camping, and taking things apart to understand how they work.

I specialize in longform journalism, humorous stories, scriptwriting, op-ed columns and ghost-writing. I also like rock climbing and have climbed some hard routes around the world. I live in western Colorado with my 102-pound dog, Brooklyn, and my 110-pound wife, Jen. And I write for National Geographic. I publish the popular climbing website Evening Sends.
